UNC vs Louisville Sat. 6:40pm DUKE vs Season Over! BLUES NEWS CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Tyler Hansbrough is supposed to beat you with a dunk. Or a layup. Or a power move to the basket resulting in a dunk or a layup.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Roy Williams has never stopped pushing his North Carolina team to play better defense, not even as it piled up lopsided wins and crowd-pleasing offensive displays that few teams can match.
RALEIGH, N.C. -- North Carolina made everything look easy in its first two NCAA tournament games, from running out to big early leads to cracking the 100-point mark with plenty of time left on the clock.
RALEIGH, N.C. -- Marcus Ginyard grabbed the loose ball near midcourt and sprinted in for an uncontested dunk. Instead, North Carolina's normally steady junior bricked the ball into the front of the rim, landed on his tail and heard the laughter coming from his bench. Ginyard could only smile as he scrambled to his feet. "There's really nothing else for me to do at this point but to laugh about it," he said. Of course, it was easy to laugh it off with his team up big and rolling to one of the storied program's best offensive showings in the NCAA tournament...more (sportsline.com) WASHINGTON (AP) — There it was, plain as could be on the overhead scoreboard, orange numbering on a black background: As the closing seconds ticked away Thursday night, Belmont was beating Duke. Read that again, slowly: No. 15-seeded Belmont was beating No. 2 Duke. Belmont, the Atlantic Sun Conference school with zero NCAA tournament wins to its credit, was leading Duke, the Atlantic Coast Conference school with three national championships on its resume...more(goduke.com) CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- One by one, North Carolina's players climbed onto the platform to snip a piece of the net to celebrate their Atlantic Coast Conference tournament championship. There were plenty of smiles and laughter, yet the victory party seemed somehow subdued. After all, the top-ranked Tar Heels figure they have bigger dreams still to chase...more(sportsline.com) CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Clemson's dubious basketball history has drawn chuckles for years, and the depth of its futility -- try 0-53 at North Carolina -- is difficult to comprehend. Well, this Clemson team is starting to shed the image that it's a football school in a basketball league. Tyler Hansbrough scored 22 points Friday to help North Carolina beat Florida State 82-70 in the ACC quarterfinals, completing a tough three-game season sweep of the Seminoles while reaching the semifinals for the fifth time in six seasons...more(sportsline.com) CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Many of Duke's key players don't have any experience winning at this level in the postseason, and it showed when the Blue Devils blew nearly all of a huge early lead. Perhaps by responding with a game-breaking rally of their own, they showed how quickly they learn...more(sportsline.com) Balanced Duke too much for North Carolina CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Duke has spent the entire season erasing memories of last year's un-Duke-like struggles. Now, after an impressive win against their biggest rivals, the Blue Devils are starting to look like a team that fits right in with their storied tradition. Greg Paulus scored 18 points and was one of six players in double figures in the second-ranked Blue Devils' 89-78 win over the third-ranked Tar Heels on Wednesday night, ending a three-game losing streak in the heated rivalry....more(rivals.com) A very special rivalry The discernible change in the atmosphere that happens every time the Tar Heels and Blue Devils meet on the hardwood is examined in a TV documentary tonight. The half-hour program "Run Up: Duke Vs. UNC," produced by Raleigh-based Distillery Pictures, premieres at 7 p.m. on Fox Sports (Time Warner Cable channel 50, DirecTV channel 630 and Dish Network channel 420) The show re-airs three nights in December, as a test for a possible 12-episode series. (newsobserver) "BLOG CENTRAL" We need UNC and Duke fans to send us their blogs about the rivalry. We mostly want basketball blogs, but all sports are welcome. Get writing! King of the Hill By Patrick Kendall I apologize…I apologize. Obviously my critics will claim that I went into hiding until AFTER this game to see the outcome before getting back to the keyboard but I promise that is not the case. You should really blame my wife. She opened a new business and demands that I put my time in there as well…so you see? Not my fault. (Honey, if you’re reading this, I LOVE spending all that quality time with you…REALLY!) Anyway, first I have to retroactively thumb my nose at Bob the Terp because of Duke’s big win in College Park. Nyahh! ....more Now I recognize these Heels. They look a lot like some of the great Kansas teams that ole Roy Boy used to coach (Collison and Pierce anyone?). Up tempo, athletic, tough. Big guards that could rebound and run; big men who could bull their way to the basket and draw the foul in a half-court set. It’s all coming back to me. I also remember another thing about those teams: no defense. The game plan was simple: you want to run, we’ll run. At the end of the game let’s see who scored more. Usually Kansas won those contests because they had better players....more My Holiday Gift: A Clarification By Patrick Kendall(rivalblues.com) I want to go on record up front that the omission of Danny Green was the only error I intend to apologize for from last week’s blog. I’m a little surprised at myself that he was left out of the comparison so as a result I will amend my Forward analysis and call Green/Stephenson/Thompson a Push against Singler/McClure/Thomas (two names that weren’t mentioned either in the last blog.) ......more
